Kava and Kratom have many similarities which is why people confuse the two, both tea’s have amazing benefits that aid people with any type of pain.
Kratom tea is popular as a stimulant, sometimes as an alternative to coffee, or at somewhat higher doses as a sedative and to induce feelings of calm. It is also used as a pain reliever or to help the user overcome drug addiction with fewer withdrawal symptoms. Kratom has many alkaloids such as mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine which interact with the opioid system of the brain. This opioid system controls the pain sensations, so alkaloids of Kratom work as morphine for the body. Pharmacologically, Kratom is not an opiate rather it targets opioid receptors without binding, this makes kratom non addictive and aids with pain. It also stimulates serotonin and norepinephrine receptors.
Kava is typically consumed as a mildly intoxicating drink to improve mood, ease anxiety and boost sociability. Kava is a less studied plant. The main ingredients of Kava are Kavalactones. These Kavalactones can interact with the limbic system. The limbic system is the part of the human brain which controls emotions and feelings. Kava only stimulates dopamine receptors.
Overall both are very safe to drink and offer similar sensations, however just like anything in life moderation is key!
